This past weekend my sister Joan
hosted a knitting party at her house in Oshawa. Everyone was there except for Pauline and Melissa (they needed some home time) and this time mom brought Becky 🙂
The evening started off with us girls taking turns in the kitchen preparing our ‘healthy’ snacks. Dee made vegetarian nacho’s with mexican ground round, I made chicken pesto pizza’s on whole wheat english muffins, and I’m not really sure who did what else but there was a variety of fruit dishes, salads and yummy yogurt dips, not to mention whole grain crackers, cheese and kolbassa. Mom even brought a case of cranberry juice! To commemorate (sp?) Joans month of health I brought her a gift – a coffee crisp 😛
We all lounged together in the livingroom and worked on our various projects while watching wacked out videos on You Tube. Sarah had extreme prego-brain and kept having incomplete thoughts out loud, I taught Becky how to make a rag-rug, Joan went around showing off her extreme knitting skills with the ‘continental stitch’ and Desiree had a few fretful minutes over a blanket pattern 🙂 Mom worked on her project (a sweater for Anne) but then dissapeared around 11pm. Upon investigation we found her in the basement playing on the WII 🙂
We all settled in for bed around 11:30pm down in Joans rec room. Mom, Bex and I took the pull out bed, Sarah (along with her snacks) took the single air mattress, and Joan and Dee shared the extra mattress on the floor. After about 20 minutes of mom and desiree fighting with joan and sarah about whether or not we should all sleep with a night light (I was fine, there was a light coming in from the next room :P) we all started to quiet down and dose off. At this point Sarah began worrying about whether or not she brought enough food to bed with her and threatened to chew on us randomly throughout the night. This led to lots of giggles and girl chatter which aggravated mom who was trying to sleep. In a fit of rage, mom stood up on top of the bed and glared down at all of us. In a threatening voice she told us all to behave and levelled us with a scottish glare.
As kids, we would have shut our eyes immediately and slept. As grown women we tackled her and pulled her pants down 😛
This led to much more wrestling and laughing, the cameras came out and a few action shots were taken (I dont have the pics yet!) but eventually we all dozed off and silence reigned over our slumbering forms. That is, until mom had a dream she was answering the phone and woke us all up by yelling "hello? hello??" at 3am.
Ah yes, good times 🙂 In the morning we sat around once again with our knitting while Joan made her famous whole wheat banana nut waffles with strawberries. I hate bananas baked in anything but these were super tasty. Later we played on the massive trampoline in her backyard and around 10am we all packed up our vehicles and left the gilmore home.
It was a great time and definitely worth the drive. I just dont have a lot of knitting to show for it 🙂
